BREAKING: Woman in her 60s has died after hit and run in Norden

A woman in her 60s has died following a hit and run incident in Norden tonight.

Police were called to the scene on Edenfield Road just before 5pm this afternoon. 

The car involved in the incident, believed to be a grey Mercedes or Audi failed to stop at the scene. 

No arrests have been made at this stage. 

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 5pm today (Sunday 19 December), police were called to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Edenfield Road, Rochdale.

"The car - believed to be a grey Mercedes or Audi - failed to stop at the scene.

"Emergency services attended and a woman - believed to be in her 60's - was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"No arrests have been made and Edenfield Road is currently closed whilst police carry out initial enquiries."

Chief Inspector Bob Cantrell, of Greater Manchester Police, added: "Our thoughts remain firmly with the woman's loved ones at this difficult time.

"If anyone witnessed this collision and has any dashcam footage or information about the grey car please get in touch with police as soon as possible.

"It is believed the grey car will have significant damage to the front end."

Edenfield Road (A680) remains closed in both directions between Martins Field and Bagslate Moor Road. 

The road is closed to both vehicles and pedestrians, with a police cordon in place. 

Ward Councillor for Norden, Peter Winkler commented: "Tonight there has been a serious incident at the bottom of Elmsfield in Norden.

"The road and footpath are closed between Martins Field and the petrol station at Woodyard, you cannot pass on foot or by vehicle.

"The block is expected to be in place for a couple of hours please help the emergency services by not trying to use this route."
