Bury Adult Learning will host a Reverse Job Fair on 29th November, inviting employers and local businesses to connect with learners.
Various employers such as Thales Ltd-a cyber security multinational company, Willmott Dixon-a Construction company, Rochdale Valley Radio, Persona, West Pennie Care, various council departments, Ingeus, and Bury VCFA will come to chat with learners described as neurodivergent about work and volunteering opportunities.
As part of Bury’s LET’S Strategy 2030, co-partnership work between the Council and its commissioned Services with Bury VCFA is paramount. To exemplify this positive working relationship, Bury Adult Learning Service will be showcasing the positive working relationships between the sectors in addressing the barriers around the low employment rate of those described as neurodivergent.
Nikki Naylor, programme manager for work and wellbeing at Bury Adult Learning Service hopes to flip the traditional job fair so employers visit learners, engaging in conversations about potential opportunities, whilst the learners have the chance to showcase their skills and aspirations.
Councillor Charlotte Morris, cabinet member for culture, economy and skills, said: “Adult Learning provide such a wonderful resource for anyone looking to increase their skills and develop themselves. In Bury, we offer a wide range of courses and support employment opportunities. This reverse job fair is one of many amazing examples of how our adult learning team support our learners to achieve their goals.
"A big thanks of course goes to the businesses and employers that are supporting this event and opening up their opportunities to our adult learners. It's that spirit of working together that makes Bury a place where everyone can share in success.”
Councillor Tamoor Tariq, deputy leader and cabinet member for adult care, health and well-being, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for our adult learners to showcase their skills and work to local Bury employers. I am always proud of what our adult learners achieve throughout their courses and look forward to seeing more success stories thanks to events and job fairs like this one.”
The job fair will be taking place Friday 29thNovember, 1-3 pm at Bury Adult Learning Centre, BL9 0AQ.
