Bury Mini and Junior events set to return in 2024

Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All, the UK’s largest not for profit events company, is delighted to announce that entries are now open for Bury’s most popular children’s charity road running events, the Bury Mini and Junior run sponsored by Xerox Business Solutions.

Returning to the town’s events calendar on the same day as the popular Bury 10K on Sunday 15th September, the events offer the perfect opportunity for families, schools and friends to stay active and healthy together.

All Mini and Junior events are entirely inclusive, and organisers are encouraging youngsters of all abilities and ages to join them on the day.

Organised in conjunction with Bury Council, the Mini 1.5Km course is open to children aged between 3 – 8 and the Junior 2.5Km course caters for children aged between 9 – 15. Starting and finishing in the heart of the town centre, outside the Rock Shopping Centre, the Junior run will start at 11.45am, followed by the Mini run shortly after.

Providing an opportunity for participants to be cheered on by an electric crowd of spectators, while tackling a shorter distance, children and juniors will be rewarded with a goody bag and medal at the finish line. The Mini and Junior series are all about inclusivity, building confidence and having a great day out with family and friends.

Following on from the huge success of the event in 2023, it is hoped even more children and juniors from across the region will sign up to take part in 2024.

A huge standout moment of the day, one of the region’s most brave and popular girls Ella Chadwick joined in on the action.

15-year-old Ella, from Rochdale, was born with a rare kidney disease and has spent much of her life in hospital. Born needing six years of dialysis, she underwent 40 operations before undergoing a kidney transplant at the age of eight. Since then, Ella has raised thousands of pounds for charity by taking part in a variety of events and was named ‘Child of Courage’ at the Pride of Britain awards in 2018. Two years later she captivated the nation when receiving the golden buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent after performing with the signing choir ‘Sign Along With Us’.

As part of its sponsorship, Xerox Business Solutions is looking to increase participation by offering 150 free entries to local schools in Bury and is encouraging schools to get in contact with Run For All directly to redeem these entries.

Councillor Nathan Boroda, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Care at Bury Council, said: “We have hosted the annual event now in partnership with Jane Tomlinson ‘Run For All’ since 2016. Since then, we have seen over 10,000 entries to the event. Many runners who have taken part are from Bury which is brilliant to see. The annual event has also seen nearly £90k raised for local charities.

“We want to support more people to move more in their daily lives and the Mini and Junior fun runs support young people of all abilities to get involved. We particularly want to see more schools enter the event which is FREE to enter.”

Gary Putson, Managing Director at Xerox Business Solutions, said: “It is a great honour to be supporting Run for All again with these fantastic events for the community. We started the sponsorship (as Arena Group, now a Xerox Business Solutions company) over a decade ago and it means so much to us to continue the partnership and see how many families have been involved over the years.”

Siobhan Curtis, Marketing and Communications Director at Run For All, said: “We are delighted to open entries for the 2024 Bury Mini and Junior runs. The Mini and Junior runs are a great way of bringing together participants all levels of ability, background and experience.

“With the Bury 10K taking place on the same day, the Mini and Junior series offer the perfect opportunity for adults taking part to make it a family day of fun.

“All of our Mini and Junior events remain to be entirely inclusive, and we encourage youngsters of all ages and abilities to join us on the day. Please get in touch if you may need any extra assistance on the day.

“We are hugely grateful to Xerox Business Solutions for their continuing and tremendous support. Their commitment helps ensure our participants have a fantastic race day experience.”
