Bury Business Improvement District have begun hosting the Knife Angel in partnership with Bury Council and GMP and several organisations and partners.
The Knife Angel will be located near the intersection of Tithebarn Street and The Rock from today (1st March) until 27th March as part of its National Anti-Violence Tour.
The sculpture, made from over 100,000 seized blades, was specifically created to highlight the negative effects of violent behaviour whilst solidifying our critical need for social change.
Not only does the Angel act as a catalyst for turning the tide on violent and aggressive behaviour, but it is also acts as a memorial designed to celebrate those lives who have been lost through these violent and thoughtless actions.
Mayor Sandra Walmsley, Cllr Richard Gold & Superintendent Mike Walsh were at the launch earlier today, as well as MAD Theatre.
Campaigner Kelly Brown spoke at the event, her 16-year-old son Rhamero West died after he was attacked in Trafford in 2021.
Victoria Robinson, Chair Bury BID, said: “The visit of the Knife Angel to Bury is a reminder to all about the devastating effect of knife crime to the community.
The Bury BID is proud to be involved in bringing this impressive yet poignant statue into our town. We are encouraging everyone to come and visit it during the month of March.
"Various supporting activities to help promote the message behind the Knife Angel will also take place in and around the town centre."
