The ‘Just for the Crack Rounders Team’, a women’s rounders team in the Rochdale league, have raised £925 for Cancer Research Race For Life by taking part in the Pretty Muddy race, and are well on the way to their target of £1,000.
The team began their inspiring fund-raising journey for the charity for over 2 months and look set to beat their goal of £1,000 raised before their race in July.
On their online donations page, the team says: ‘We are all running for people we loved who have lost their lives to Cancer and for those who have won the battle. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work.’
This team of amazing ladies, who won the title of 3rd Division Champions for a second year this month, will be running the Pretty Muddy 5K in early July, and teammate Sonia said: “I joined because my friend kept telling me how amazing rounders was, and it is! I'm doing Pretty Muddy again as I lost lovely folk to cancer; My Dad, my aunt and Kathy, a lovely friend. I'm doing this for all the warriors gone too soon and still fighting.”
The cause this team is running for is especially important to teammates and sisters Betty and Rachael, as Betty explained: “I joined rounders as my sister Rachael, the captain, made me. But it was the best decision I've never made. I joined Pretty Muddy as cancer has affected my family throughout the years, but it affected me personally when my son was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) on Christmas Eve 2020.”
