Launch of new mental health resources and campaign in Bury for children and young people

Thriving in Bury, along with members of Bury Youth Cabinet, have launched a new mental health campaign, with the creation of a children and young people’s mental health service directory.

There has been a rise in the numbers of young people, both locally and nationally, who are dealing with emotional health and wellbeing challenges since the Covid pandemic. The directory has been developed with children and young people to help them find the best ways to support their emotional health and wellbeing.

The digital platform has a noticeboard format, which was designed based on feedback from young people, who wanted it to be easy to use. It provides useful information and resources about local services, youth groups, emotional concerns and issues, national helplines and digital support.

The Thriving in Bury resources and promotional campaign involve a variety of materials including a new digital platform, posters, leaflets, and outdoor banners distributed to schools and across social media channels to raise awareness. These materials include a QR code which children and young people can scan to access the directory.

Daniel Lewis, Daisy Howard, and Courtney Finnegan from St Gabriel’s Roman Catholic High School helped to design the platform as part of their work with Bury Youth Cabinet. They said:

“These new digital mental health resources for children and young people are great as they are easy to access and understand. We were really pleased to be asked to co-produce the resources because they are aimed specifically at children and young people, and we were able to offer valuable insight into how best to engage with other people of a similar age. We would advise everyone to have a look at the new resources, especially those who would benefit from some emotional help and support.”

In addition to the Children and Young People’s resource, Thriving in Bury resources have been co-produced for parents and carers and professionals, who may also need some advice and guidance.
